Prunes

Prunes originate primarily from Chile, California, Serbia, France, and Argentina. Chile has become one of the leading producers globally, known for consistent quality, reliable sizing, and modern processing standards. The prune plum (Prunus domestica) requires temperate climates with cool winters and dry harvest periods to ensure the correct sugar-to-acid balance for drying.

Processing involves washing, dehydration, rehydration (to standard moisture levels), pitting, sizing, and pasteurisation. Facilities operate under rigorous food safety management systems to maintain microbial control and ensure consistency. Variants include whole prunes, pitted prunes, prune paste, and diced prunes.

BLB’s strongest relationships are with leading processors in Chile, where we source a wide range of prune sizes and formats. We understand the seasonal dynamics that influence prune supply, such as frost events, drought, and alternate bearing cycles, and assist customers with structured purchasing programs to manage their exposure.

We supply both spot and forward contracts, tailored to industrial, retail, and foodservice requirements. With regular communication across our supply chain, we offer well-informed assessments of crop conditions, pricing, and demand throughout each season.
