Cashews

The Cashew tree grows in tropical areas with an annual rainfall of 400 to 4,000 mm and from sea level to an altitude of 1,000m.  Cashew is cultivated primarily in India, Vietnam, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, Tanzania, Benin, Brazil and other countries in East and West Central Africa and Sout East Asia.  Plantings have also been established in South Africa and Australia.

Although Africa produces the majority of the world’s raw cashew nuts crop, much of this is moved in raw state so that most of the processing into finished kernels is done in South East Asia, the export of shelled cashews is as follows:

Cashew processing often involves multi-stage handling between smallholder farms and centralized shelling/packing facilities. HACCP-compliant operations ensure aflatoxin control, allergen management, and traceability throughout the supply chain.
